FUN (on the 4th of July)

Vernon Utah (pop. 200) has a microcosm of all fun and patriotic things every year on Independence Day. Flag raising ceremony and Pony Express ride. Breakfast. A parade that lasts 10 minutes down Main Street, and then 10 minutes back. Patriotic speakers and funny skits. Giant inflatables and booths selling snow cones, tacos, and trinkets. Races and contests. Some kind of water to entertain the kids.
FUN (Parade entries)
FUN (Contests)

NOT FUN (20 min. train pass)

FUN (Fireworks! in Salt Lake)

BEST PART OF MY DAY July 3

The beginning turned out to be the best. I went for a walk to enjoy the cool part of the day.

I noticed this yellow sports car
with flowers in its open trunk.

And later discovered the Stairway to Heaven!

BUSY

July 2   This busy day included the morning regulars (juice, trampoline, scripture study), Relief Society visits, several phone calls, running errands for Lexi, laundry and meal prep for Lexi, and as a wonderful finish, a free Utah Symphony concert! My very favorite piece (which I also heard at a Bells on Temple Square concert recently) was Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man". What feelings it elicits! - heart swells, tears form, body wants to stand up and shout!

SELF PORTRAIT

July 1  This may be too much information but I think the word for today has stymied me for over a week! How do I get around having to take a picture of myself?! It's somewhat ridiculous, I know, and has brought out my worst fault: procrastination. Because it's my worst fear: being on camera. So at least I'm posting - even if it is a week late, and then I'll add the picture - you got it! - later!

It's only one day later, and I have faced my fears!

FRIEND

June 30  My friend to pal around with most of the time is Marlene, and sometimes Pam, and people from church, and my sweet daughters and daughters-in-law, and mothers too. But in the dark of night, when I'm lonely or afraid, or have a challenge ahead of me, when I've just witnessed an amazing sunset or flower or personal 'tender mercy', my Friend who is always there to teach me, lift me, love me, save me, is My Savior, Jesus Christ.
