Today I begin to 'cross the great deep’ of 2013. I was
reminded recently of the dash between two dates. On a tombstone it
represents your lifetime – what you did between your birthdate and your death
date. So as I begin the dash through this new year of 2013, January – December,
during which I can expect at times to be ‘as a whale in the midst of the sea;
for the mountain waves shall dash upon [me]’, I will trust in the Lord to ‘bring
[me] up again out of the depths of the sea’, as He has so many times in the
past. In Ether 2:25 the Lord tells the brother of Jared that they cannot cross
the great deep without light, and asks for his ideas for getting light. I
believe the light of the Gospel, with its luminous stones of Prayer, Prophets,
Scriptures, Service, and Personal Revelation will give me ‘light when [I am]
swallowed up in the depths of the sea’. I give my heart wholly to the Lord, who
has blessed me so generously with His Light and Love. Whatever fears hold me
back from giving wholly, I pray they will be dissipated by the Light in my
journey through this year.
